lowlands has resulted in a return of my obsessive compulsive belle and sebastian disorder. I probably shouldn't brag, but they were the best thing I think I've actually seen ever. I'm probably completely exaggerating, but this is a disorder I've got, remember? there is absolutely no way that my measly writing talent can do it justice, but I was right at the front, the crowd was small, stu was on form with his puns and witticisms and everybody was just happy! you can't honestly beat a bit of happiness. oh and stu came into the crowd and shook my hand during lord anthony, and I got the setlist and did I mention I was right on the front row in the middle the whole time? I'm listening to the smiths so that I don't become too institutionalised, I'm saving belle and sebastian for later.

stu in the crowd singing lord anthony, right before he came back up (there was a sort of tunnel between two halves of the audience) and shook my hand, and got back on the stage.

so so so I'm home and it's ok. I'm leaving again tomorrow, which is ok too. I'm in a bit of a no-man's land between holiday and real life, which as of next week will be partly  conducted in sunderland, I'm not too sure what I think about that.

lowlands was pretty incredible. sadly I own neither a pair of skinny jeans nor wellington boots to complete that iconic muddy festival look, I did, however, have a green skirt, an oversived waterproof and some really muddy trainers, so I looked like a bit of an oddball and I got a cold, but these are not things I will care about, not when I remember stu shaking my hand, or falling in love with karen o of the yeah yeah yeahs or feeling so chilled out I'm tripped out (but not really) during massive attack.

as for holidays... well I flew to milan and I'm staying in a youth hostel out of the centre. I actually think it's the equivalent of gateshead to newcastle actually, as it's a bit of a mission from the main part of town. however, we had a good look round the city, it's very beautiful and yesterday was very very hot, but in the sticky sense so not particularly pleasant. we saw the duomo (massive and beautifully ornate cathedral (only gothic cathedral of any note in italy)) and la scala (opera house, v. exclusive) and of course, prada, louis vuitton, armani, need I go on? we walked around the castle and visited brema, the arty district - lots of cobbled streets and funky bars. we even went into an art gallery and saw loads of religious paintings - I felt extremely cultured! I really fancied a proper night out in milan but lots of places are shut (apparently everyone in milan is on holiday in august!) and also we couldn't easily get back to the hostel, so instead we had a drink in a nice bar and then went back.
today we escaped the city and went to lake como (where george clooney has a villa). we had an even more cultural experience whilst negotiating the local italian deli (in my shit italian plus sign language) and even more interestingly, the bus network. my lesson from all this is that the "tabbachari" (I've spelt that completely wrong - basically the cigarette shop) is the epicentre of everything, and they sell stamps (unlike shops called "stampa" - they sell magazines). I've also learnt that green on a pedestrian crossing doesn't necessarily mean that cars won't run you over, it's just slightly less probable. so anyway, we bussed our way around the lake then ferried back. it was pissing it down nearly the whole time so I was pretty glad I'd brought my proper waterproof. still, the black clouds made the mountains look very dramatic so I've got some amazing pictures.

right now I'm sitting in a seedy internet cafe that charges a mere 1 euro for 30mins of its time. awesome!
tomorrow I am heading to the french alps, staying in a town called moutiers first, and then annecy. it's one of my favourite parts of the world so i really can't wait.

considering I keep complaining of having nothing to, you'd think I'd somehow have the time to update this thing. apparently not. however, not that much has happened, so I'll try and make it brief (albeit interesting and informative!):

- isle of wight festival rocked my world! pictures are on facebook and a few might just make it here if I can be arsed...

- london was also cool, and I got a tan, and negotiated the london transport system:
a. with a million bags/suitcases/tents etc.
b. with a large rucksack and baguette (all remaining intact!)
c. alone
d. whilst intoxicated
...and I'm still alive!

- I met with andy b in southampton (where it's always sunny)

- I moved out of coniston palace :-(

- I had to find my own fun whilst at home, I'm not doing too bad; bike rides, walking the dog, unpacking, procrastinating via wireless internet (now available in my room), paying bills (they know where I live), downloading music/making immense compilations/listening to new music (to everyone or just to me)/playing music (rediscovered my flute), writing letters, working, holiday planning, climbing lots

- return to linden: lots of weddings on the cards

tomorrow = day of bouldering in rothbury + night of intoxication in town, I can't wait

I have just copied my itunes files across to my external hard drive, made it the default file location and permanently deleted it all from my hard drive (yes, I almost died from the shock) but everything still works and my computer officially has free space.

one thing I forgot that made me really happy this week: purchasing the daft punk album "human after all" and discovering that its eponymous track is the absolute banger at the start of one of the erol alkan podcasts. hearing it gave me shivers and that made my week.

I feel rotten.

This doesn't even feel like a hangover, I have severe stomach ache, I'm tired and I feel miserable. I've spent most of the day in a daze, half asleep on my bed in silence. I tried to learn some anatomy but I was shit.

last night was good and I don't actually remember leaving, one moment I was dancing, next I woke up in bed, bloody confused about how I got there.

this is my best pic:

I've just discovered the fucking awesome ewan pearson remix of ride a white horse (goldfrapp) - get this baby in your life.

sweet dreams x
